Conversion

In 1993, the museum decided to renovate it and in the long term to transform from a pure science museum in an academic educational institution. This new facility would then bear the name California Science Center. The plan for these changes would be carried out in three phases:

Phase I

  • Reconstruction of the main building ( Howard F. Ahmanson building).
  • Science Plaza - Exhibits in front of the main entrance. World of Life - The Science of Life in five galleries.
  • Creative World - Illuminated technologies of transportation, communication and load-bearing structures. There is a virtual reality, where visitors can operate virtual sports. There is also an earthquake simulator.
  • Special Exhibits gallery - In this area, there is a Titanic exhibition, a magic show and an exhibition about the human body.
  • ExploraStore - A business that specializes in continuing education and scientific products.

Phase II

  • New parking and gardens.
  • Renovation and remodeling of the historic armory into a new Science Center School.
  • Renovation of the air and space sector.
  • Ecosystems.

Phase III

  • Worlds Beyond - planned.
