Callebaut

Callebaut / kalebau̯t / was a Belgian company and a major producer of chocolate for private consumers and professional chocolatiers. As of 1996, it is part of the Swiss company Barry Callebaut. Callebaut is one of the most important brands of the merged company.

History

The company was founded by Eugen Callebaut as a brewery in Belgium Wieze, 1850 and began in 1911 with the production of chocolate bars, followed in 1925, the chocolate coating.

In 1996, Callebaut merged with rival companies chocolatier Cacao Barry, with headquarters in Zurich. The establishment of Callebaut has remained in Belgium. In 2005, Barry Callebaut has been called " the world's largest chocolate maker ".

Bernard Callebaut

The great-grandson of Bernard Callebaut by Eugen Callebaut, opened his own chocolate company in Calgary, Alberta. This company, which was called Chocolaterie Bernard Callebaut, was not related to Callebaut or with the new company Barry Callebaut.
