History

As the first Calligra component KPresenter 1997 was developed as a standalone application. In 1998 it KWord word processing. Later, other applications have been added that were bundled as KOffice.

After a long-running dispute with KWord developer, Thomas Zander, the rest of the development team on 6 December 2010 announced that KOffice is to be split off as of version 2.4 in Calligra Suite. This should primarily reflect the value of the software as a technology platform. With the renaming of the whole package, a renaming of individual components is associated. KSpread will be renamed Sheets, KPresenter in Stage Kivio in flow and KPlato in plan. KWord was not split, but instead developed a new word processor called Words.

The 2.3 series of KOffice has been maintained by the Calligra team. The development of KOffice 2.4 is almost exclusively operated since the spin-off of Thomas Zander, who in turn received, in addition to the development of KWord derivatives of KSpread KPresenter and Karbon14 under new names in KOffice 2.4. All other KOffice 2.3 components have been removed without replacement.

On 18 May 2011, the Calligra team monthly snapshots of Calligra Suite began to publish 2.4. It was originally planned, the final 2.4 version to be published in January 2012, but problems with the Undo / Redo function make for delays and the finished version was finally published on 11 April 2012.
