Caloptilia rufipennella

Maple Moth ( Caloptilia rufipennella )

The maple moth ( Caloptilia rufipennella ) is a species of the family of the leafminer ( Gracillariidae ). It can reach a wingspan of about 12 millimeters and has striking zimtrote forewing. You can find it in the summer months.

The larvae of the moth maple leaf miners live as primarily in the leaves of the maple. They nate during the first larval stages within the sheet and build up in the last larval stage, a bag -like role in which they gnaw the leaf area.

The moths emerge in August. They overwinter and can be encountered again next spring.
