Calumet Photographic is a trading organization that specifically aimed at professional photographers and videographer.

History

The company was founded in 1939 by Kenneth Becker as Calumet Manufacturing Company in Chicago and initially sold sporting goods, later photographic accessories and darkroom equipment. From 1955, took over the business from Calumet view cameras from Kodak and extended in 1980, the business activities on a full-range supplier in the field of professional photography. In March 2014, the offices in the U.S., as well as the local site were closed as part of a bankruptcy under Chapter 7.

An expansion to the UK market was a relatively early stage company formation. In Germany Calumet has been represented since 1990 in Hamburg ( the German sister city of Chicago ), later Berlin and Dusseldorf .. For more important, the company has admittedly only in 2004 with the purchase of the insolvent Professional Photo Service. The branches of the PPS were partly taken over ( Photo Elgas in Munich), some with existing Calumet stores konsolodiert (Hamburg and Dusseldorf ), partly closed ( Frankfurt, film art in Munich). Currently, the company has 9 branches in the U.S., 7 in the UK, 2 in the Netherlands, one in Belgium, and six in Germany ( Hamburg, Essen, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Munich and Stuttgart). The subsidiaries outside the U.S. are not affected by the insolvency of the U.S. company.

Information regarding the origin of the name Calumet are not available. However, there is one in Chicago " Calumet Park ," " Calumet Heights ", and several municipalities of this name in the surrounding area ( Calumet City, Calumet Park ).
