Calvert County, Maryland

The Calvert County is a county located in the state of Maryland in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 88 737 inhabitants and a population density of 159 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Prince Frederick.

Geography

The County is located on the southwestern shore of the Chesapeake Bay and has an area of 894 square kilometers; of which 336 square miles ( 37.65 percent) of water. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

Today's Calvert County was formed in 1654 from the unorganized territory signified (in reality Indian lands ). Originally, it was just like the Patuxent River called by the Indians Patuxent Patuxent County. In 1658 it was renamed after the family name Calvert of the Barons of Baltimore.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Calvert County 74 563 people in 25 447 households and 20 154 families. The population density was 134 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.9 percent white, 13.1 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.9 percent Asian and 0.5 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 25 447 households out of which 41.7 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent were single mothers and 20.8 percent were non-families. 16.3 percent of all households were single-person households and 5.7 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size is 3.26 people.

29.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.4 percent between 18 to 24, 40.0 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 years old and 8.9 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.0 males.

The average income of a household was $ 65,945, for a family is $ 71,545. Males had a median income of $ 48,664, women $ 32,265. The per capita income was $ 25,410. About 3.1 percent of families and 4.4 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
