Camel hair

Camel hair refers to the yellowish to reddish- brown fur of the native to Asia and Africa camel. It contains in its structure fundamentally different types of hair. The guard hairs ( guard hairs ) is simple and rough, while the lanugo ( hair) curly and is fine. The hair is not shaved nor combed out, but fall in spring in bunches from. In the textile sector is almost exclusively the more valuable, easily and well spinnable vellus use. Due to the rarity, softness and fineness, the vellus hair is processed often mixed with virgin wool.

Brushes that are declared by the manufacturer as camel hair, are often only hair of horses and goats, or a combination of these. Therefore, the absorbency, texture and other characteristics of the so-called camel hair brushes vary greatly. Vellus hair is basically useless for brush.
