Cameralism

Under Kameralwissenschaft, Kameralistik in the broader sense or Kameralia was understood in the 18th and 19th centuries, those sciences which gave the chamber officials have the necessary knowledge for the work in the administration of the absolutist state. With Kameralistik in the narrower sense, a sub-discipline of Kameralwissenschaft is called; namely the accounts of the camera list, which is practiced to this day.

The Kameralistik was developed in 1762 by the Austrian Councillor Johann Mathias Puechberg. Kameralistik can be considered as German equivalent of the French mercantilism. It's in the Kameralistik aim is to influence the economy through state actions so that the wealth of a nation is multiplied.

The Kameralwissenschaft considered despite the pursuit of princes according to maximum income already a number of granted today basic functions of the state: the promotion of the economy (although initially mainly in agriculture ) and ensuring internal and external security. Thus, the doctrine made ​​up of chamber things as a compilation of the principles of the activities of those authorities.

Kameralwissenschaft was made ​​especially built cameral professorships at the universities, first in Prussia in Halle and Frankfurt ( Oder) since 1727, and taught, among other things scientifically shown by Veit Ludwig von Seckendorf, Philip Wilhelm von Hornick, Georg Heinrich Zincke, Johann Heinrich Gottlob von Justi and Joseph of Sun Rock. They fell into two parts. Firstly, in the economy, which included not only the general housekeeping rules, but also the doctrine of the urban economy ( trade, commerce ) and agriculture. Secondly, in the study of the administration of the State, one part of which, the police, deals with the measures for the care and increasing general national prosperity. The other part of management theory dealt with the region corresponding to today's finance. The Kameralwissenschaft can be regarded as one of the sources of political science.
