Camillians

The Kamillaner (Latin: Ordo Clericorum Regularium Ministrantium Infirmis ) Order Abbreviation: MI, also: Ordo Sancti Camilli, are a nursing order within the Roman Catholic Church.

Established in 1582, they were as a community of nurses from Camillus de Lellis Capuchin. The official name of the Order Ordo Clericorum Regularium Ministrantium Infirmis and is abbreviated as MI or with the previous designation OSCam. Their distinguishing mark is the red Kamilluskreuz.

The Order currently has 1,147 members, of whom 670 are priests. The 175 facilities of the Order are dedicated to mainly medical care, but also education. Thus, the Order runs 17 training and further education institutions in the health sector and two universities.

The "International Institute for Theology of pastoral health care Camillianum " the Kamillaner was approved by the Holy See on 28 April 1987, subject to the Teresianum. Current Superior General Renato Salvatore. A well-known Superior General was Carlo von Mansfeld, MI ( 1947-1965 ).
