Camillo Ballin

Camillo Ballin MCCJ (* June 24, 1944 in Fontaniva, Padova, Italy) is a Roman Catholic bishop and apostolic vicar in Northern Arabia.

Life

Camillo Ballin joined the Congregation of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus ( MCCJ ) in, put the profession in 1968 and received priestly ordination in 1969. After a study of languages ​​of Arabic language in Syria and Lebanon from 1972 to 1977 he was a priest in Cairo. Subsequently, he studied from 1977 to 1980 at the University of St. Esprit ( Université Saint -Esprit de Kaslik ( USEK ) ) in Kaslik in Beirut and at the Pontifical Oriental Institute ( Instituto Pontifical Oriental ) in Rome oriental liturgy. From 1981 to 1990 he was a professor at the Theological Institute in Cairo and Superior of the Comboni Missionaries in Egypt. From 1990 to 1997 he built up a teaching facility for teachers of religion in Sudan. Between 1997 and 2000, he was with a thesis on the history of the Church of the Sudan, particularly during the Mahdiyyah - time ( 1881-1898 ), received his doctorate in Rome. In 2000 he became director of the Dar Comboni Center of Arab and Islamic Studies in Cairo and Professor of Church History at the Inter -Rite seminar. In 2004 he published, among many other publications, the well-known works in Arabic " The Ways of the Spirit " and " History of the Church ".

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him Titular Bishop of Arna 2005 and appointed him as the fourth vicar apostolic in Kuwait. He received his episcopal consecration on 2 September 2005, the then Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and current Archbishop of Naples, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe; Co-consecrators were the nuncio Archbishop Giuseppe De Andrea of Kuwait and his predecessor, Archbishop Francis George Adeodatus Micallef. His motto is " In Tuo vertu ".
