Camillo Olivetti

Camillo Olivetti ( born August 13, 1868 in Ivrea, † December 4, 1943 in Biella ) was an Italian engineer and founder of Olivetti.

Olivetti studied in Turin and Stanford electrical engineering. In 1896 he founded with his partners Dino Gatta and Michele Ferrero, the company GCS, which initially focused on the manufacturing of measuring instruments. 1904, the factory for four years after Milan was postponed until Olivetti on 29 October 1908 in Ivrea Società ing. C. Olivetti & C. (ICO ) founded.

1911 Olivetti introduced before the first typewriter to the public. The ICO made ​​from then on mainly typewriters, tools and quickly evolved into a successful business. 1933 gave Olivetti from the leadership of the company to his son Adriano Olivetti.
