Camillo Porzio

Camillo Porzio (* 1526 in Naples, † 1580 ) was an Italian historian.

Life

He belonged to a wealthy Neapolitan noble family and was the son of the philosopher Simone Porzio. He studied law, first in Bologna and later in Pisa, and after graduating in Roman and canon law, he practiced as a lawyer in Naples.

His literary masterpiece is La congiura dei baroni ( The conspiracy of the barons ), a history of unsuccessful conspiracy of the barons against King Ferdinand I of Naples (Naples ) in the year 1485th It is based on the authentic reports of government processes, but is biased in favor of the royal rule. It was first released in 1565 by Manutius in Rome. From Porzios other works the Storia d' Italia ( History of Italy, 1547-1552 ) is the best known. Only the first two books of the work have survived.
