Camotes Islands

The Camotes Islands are a Philippine archipelago lying in the Camotes Sea between the Philippine main islands of Cebu and Leyte. To the south is the island of Bohol.

They belong to the province of Cebu and consist of four islands:

  • Pacijan and Tulang with the municipality ( bayan or municipality ) San Francisco, on her lies 5 km long Lake Danao
  • Poro with the municipalities of Poro and Tudela.
  • Ponson with the Municipality of Pilar

Total living on the islands according to the census of 2007 89.324 people.

The directly adjacent Pacijan and Poro are separated only by a narrow strait and connected by a bridge.

The Camotes islands are accessible by boat from the island of Cebu from the port Danao and Mandaue City. From Leyte they are reachable from the port of Ormoc City. On the islands of the bike is recommended.

The name Camotes means the Mexican yam. On the islands Cebuano is spoken.
