Camper Van Beethoven

Camper Van Beethoven is an alternative rock band from Santa Cruz, California (USA).

History

The band was founded in 1983 was characterized by a surreal sense of humor and an eclectic mix of different styles such as pop, ska, punk rock, folk, psychedelia, surf and country. She counted in the early 1980s, in addition to Black Flag, Sonic Youth or Hüsker Dü the first representatives of Indie Rock, who published their records for small record companies. Later David Immerglück joined the band, playing guitar and string instruments. Especially in the U.S. college radio they were popular because of their ironic lyrics, and had with Take The Skinheads Bowling from the album Telephone Free Landslide Victory in 1985 a worldwide underground hit.

1988 signed the group at Virgin, where they released two albums before they split up in 1990.

The members participated in a variety of side projects. Lisher, Pederson and Immerglück played in the progressive rock band Monks of Doom, while sailing and Krummenacher together with Eugene Chadbourne did and played music as a camper van Chadbourne. The most successful, however, was Lowery, who stayed with Virgin and released several acclaimed albums with crackers.

In 2002 came the first coming together of the former members of the sideshow of crackers performances. Two years later, the first studio album New Roman Times was recorded after 15 years. However, already the album Tusk was released in 2002, about whose genesis myths merely by Camper van Beethoven were widespread.

2013 finally released their album La Costa Perdida.
