As of the end of the European campaign of 2012/13

Until 1996 there was a first and a second league ( Serie A1 and A2 ), which were interlinked through promotion and relegation. The first table of the 2nd league was even qualified for the play- off round, won in 1996 with the AC Libertas for the only time a second division, a European Championship. Since then, the teams are divided into two parallel groups.

The championship consists of two phases. First, in the regular season, the play-off participants are played. Thereafter, in the play-offs of the masters is determined.

Regular Season

The 15 teams will be divided before the start of each season in two groups (A and B). A group of seven, the other group of eight teams. During the regular season, each team plays twice against every other team of their own group and once against each team in the other group. Thus, the teams of Seven to 20 and the teams of the Group of Eight come to 21 games. The first three of both groups will qualify for the play-off round.

Play-off round

Basically, any play-off round of a game. This means that when there is a tie after 90 minutes, there are extension and possibly penalties. The game is played a double knock-out system, which means a team will change after the first defeat of the winning round in the losers bracket and separates only from after the second defeat.

  • The winner of 3rd round ( winning round ) meets the winner of the semi-finals ( loser's bracket ). The team that wins this game is san- marinesischer champion.
