Campos Basin

The Campos Basin is a marine area of 100,000 square kilometers in the South Atlantic expansion in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro with large oil deposits that are partially degraded by the company Petrobras in considerable depth.

There are more than 40 individual oil fields between 21 and 23 degrees south latitude known, the largest and befindliches to over 200 kilometers off the coast named Marlin. The degradation depth under water already reaching more than 2000 meters, while the deposits extend partially up to several kilometers below the seabed. 7 November 2011 occurred in drilling by Chevron several thousand barrels of oil and pollute the Campos Basin. This was due, according to the oil company false pressure calculations for drilling. After ten days, the leak could be closed. Brazil demanded that 8.3 billion euros in damages from Chevron.
