Can Togay

Can Togay János Can Togay ( born August 27, 1955 in Budapest) is a Hungarian poet, writer, film director and actor of Turkish descent.

Life

Togays parents had emigrated for political reasons from Turkey. From his eighth to fifteenth year he lived with his parents in Leipzig and then returned to Budapest. He became a member of the theater group by Péter Halász, who co-founded in the late 1970s, the Squat Theatre in New York. He studied German and English at the Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest. He then studied at the Theatre and Film Academy in Budapest (including Zoltán Fabri ).

His feature film " The Summer Guest" was invited to Cannes in 1992. In his second feature film " Cinema Dreams", he won the special prize of the film festival in Sochi.

Together with Gyula Pauer he produced in 2005 to commemorate the shootings of 1944/45, the Budapest Holocaust Memorial Shoes on the Danube bank.

Togay lives with his wife and three children in Berlin, where it is since 2008 director of the Collegium Hungaricum.
