History

In the neighboring stations was not enough room for it. Here was once the Albion Dock, part of the disused since 1969 Surrey Commercial Docks.

The platforms of the East London Line opened on 17 September 1999, that the Jubilee Line was followed by a little more than two months later, on 20 November 1999. On 22 December 2007, the East London Line was closed again in order to modernize them and to to extend both ends. The reopening took place on 27 April 2010; Since then, the East London Line is a part of London Overground.

Architecture

The architect of the station was Roland Paoletti. As a catcher on the surface is a 25 meter high glass drum above the entrance. It covers a deep hole that reaches almost to the 22-meter low-lying platforms of the Jubilee Line down. This is the largest part of the station lit by natural daylight. In addition to the glass drum there is a bus station, which also has a glass roof.
