Canadian County, Oklahoma

The Canadian County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. In the census in 2010, the County had 115 541 inhabitants and a population density of 49.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), El Reno, which was named after Jesse Lee Reno, a general who was killed during the American Civil War.

History

The Canadian County was formed in 1889 as an original county on former Indian land. It was named for the Canadian River, which flows through the county. The County ( Oklahoma Land Run ) was settled by white settlers during the first official land ownership acquisition of 22 April 1889. Here the last great battle in Oklahoma between Cheyenne, Arapaho and the U.S. Army was also held in 1875.
