Canadian federal election, 1908

The 11th Canadian General Election (English 11th Canadian General Election, French 11e élection fédérale canadienne ) took place on 26 October 1908. Were elected 221 Members of the Canadian House of Commons (English House of Commons, French Chambre des Communes ).

The choice

For the fourth consecutive year, Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier, the ruling Liberal Party to electoral victory. Although the Liberals suffered slight losses in the share of the vote and the number of seats, but they could still continue to govern with a comfortable majority.

The reasons given by Robert Borden Conservatives and single with them Liberal Conservative MPs failed again to oust the Liberals. They won ten seats added, but since the Parliament was expanded to seven seats, this is possible again largely.

In the southern part of the Northwest Territories, the new provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan were created in 1905, which were now three years later represented by own deputies. The turnout was 70.3 %.
