Canadian Government Railways
Canadian Government Railways ( CGR) was from 1914 to 1918 the official name for the state railways of Canada. Founded on August 1, 1914, she united several already in possession of the state railway companies as well as some smaller private railways in economic hardship. These were as follows:
- Intercolonial Railway
- Moncton and Buctouche Railway
- National Transcontinental Railway
- International Railway of New Brunswick
- New Brunswick and Prince Edward Iceland Railway
- Prince Edward Iceland Railway ( gauge 1067 mm)
These came on May 20, 1918 in New Brunswick:
- Elgin and Havelock Railway
- St. Martins Railway
- Salisbury and Albert Railway
- York and Carleton Railway
In addition, the CGR took over on November 20, 1918, the bankrupt Canadian Northern Railway including the Hudson Bay Railway. A month later, on December 20, 1918, the government changed the CGR in the Canadian National Railways at, but whose official foundation took place until 6 June 1919.
