Canadian Pacific Limited

The Canadian Pacific Limited was founded in 1971 to take over the various businesses of the Canadian Pacific Railway, who have nothing to do with the actual operation of a railroad. The company was dissolved in 2001, when five independently operating companies, including the Canadian Pacific Railway Limited, were founded.

Railway

The Canadian Pacific Railway ( CP) was founded on 16 February 1881 to build a transcontinental railway from Ontario to British Columbia. The first president was George Stephen. The railway was completed in 1885 under the supervision of the later second president William Cornelius Van Horne.

Tourism

CP built across Canada several luxury hotels in addition to their rail lines. The Mount Stephen House in Field (British Columbia) was the first in 1886. There were other hotels in the Rocky Mountains and in the big cities. In 2001, the hotels were merged with the U.S. hotel chain Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. But the railroad is today through the " CP Stores " presence in the hotels.

Telecommunications

In addition to the railways built CP and telegraph lines to enable communication with remote areas. Founded in 1894 " CPR Telegraph Company " in 1960 to " CNCP " (in cooperation with the chief rival Canadian National Railway). In 1968, the name changed to " CP Air ". The company was founded in 1987 together with two other airlines to Canadian Airlines International, which in turn was taken over by Air Canada in late 1999.

Shipping
