Canadian postal abbreviations for provinces and territories

The following article deals with the official postal abbreviations for provinces and territories of Canada as they are canadienne des postes recommended as an addressing standard of the Canadian postal authority Canada Post Corporation, or Société. The abbreviations are intended to facilitate the delivery of mail and allow the postal sorting by automated optical address recognition.

The abbreviations were chosen so that there are no overlaps with the postal abbreviations of the 50 U.S. states showed.

The abbreviation for the province ( here: ON) appears between the community name (eg Toronto ) and postal code ( here: M6K 1V2 ).
