Canadian Professional Hockey League

The Canadian Professional Hockey League ( Canpro ) was a professional, North American Hockey League, which was founded in 1926. After three seasons, the International Hockey League was formed out of the league. The name "Canadian Professional Hockey League " was eventually used for a new league of IHL farm team, but existed only in the season 1929/30.

Canpro League (1926-1929)

On June 27, 1926 a meeting in Hamilton, Ontario was held to establish a new professional league. Because of a dispute with their union, the Ontario Hockey Association, seven OHA members decided to create a professional league, which should be closely linked to the National Hockey League. Although Brantford and Toronto were present at the founding meeting, but both teams were unable to agree with the others. The other five teams were the founding members of the new CPhl. These were Hamilton, London, Niagara Falls, Stratford and Windsor. To the president of the League Charles King was appointed from Windsor on August 4, who led the league in three years of its existence.

During the annual meeting in September 1929 King was re-elected as president and renamed the League in International Hockey League.

Canpro League (1929-1930)

Teddy Oke ensured that the Canadian Professional Hockey League remained even after the establishment of the International Hockey League in Ontario. For this reason it was decided to fill the league with farm team of the IHL teams in order to establish themselves in relation to other leagues. In the season 1929/30, however, the league consisted of four teams ( from Kitchener, Galt, Guelph and Brantford ).

The league president was Robert Dawson from Guelph, Ontario. The league has already been resolved in this form after a season again, as Galt and Guelph Ontario Professional Hockey League joined.
