Canadian Screen Awards

The Canadian Screen Awards (French Les prix Écrans canadiens ) is a year in Canada by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, a company founded in 1979 non-profit organization, award film and television award. They resulted from the merger of the previously awarded by the Academy Genie Awards for film productions and the Gemini Awards for television productions. The price is comparable due to the composition of film and television with the Golden Globe Award in the USA.

History

In May 2012, the Canadian Academy of Cinema and Television ( Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television ) announced the merging of the Genie Awards and Gemini Awards in a new event known, so as to allow Canadian film and television productions a better recognition. The name of the award was unveiled in September 2012 and represents the various screens used (cinema, television, computer and mobile devices) of consumption. The first ceremony, hosted by Martin Short, took place on 3 March 2013, and was broadcast by CBC Television. The second ceremony will probably take place on 9 March 2014.

A nickname as the "Oscar" for the Academy Awards, it does not yet exist.

Nominations

Movies that want to qualify for the Canadian Screen Awards, must

  • Be the period from 1 January to 31 December of each year was first shown at least seven days in a public theater in Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Winnipeg for payment or
  • Have been shown for the period 1 January to 31 December of each year to two approved by the Academy Film Festival.

It does not matter whether the film is in English or French language.

Television programs and series that want to qualify for the Canadian Screen Awards must have been broadcast in the period from September 1 of one year to August 31st of the next year in an English-speaking channels. It should fall within this period for Series decisive whether at least 50 percent of the series, so all the episodes of the same season or same production cycle can be nominated.
