Canadian Soccer League

The Canadian Soccer League ( CSL ) is the highest professional Canadian Football League and is under the control of the Canadian Soccer Association.

By May 2006, called the League Canadian Professional Soccer League ( CPSL ). The CSL is registered with FIFA as official national league, but is in the Canadian soccer pyramid only in third place behind Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer League. Between the four Canadian teams in these two leagues will be played since 2008, the so-called Canadian Championship to determine the participants in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Canadian Soccer League also has a reserve league, the CSL Reserve Division, which has existed since 2009.

Mode

A season runs annually from April / May to October / November. The league consists of 14 teams, which are performed in a unit table. Each team completed 26 games, each with a return match against the other teams. The top eight clubs then enter into the play-offs against each other around the Givova Cup play off (until 2010 Rogers Cup). The encounters in the quarter -finals of the play-offs will be played in two games. In the semifinals and finals just a game is played.
