Canaima (operating system)

Canaima is a Linux distribution with exclusively Free Software and based on Debian.

Since 2004, Venezuela promotes the use of free software in public institutions. The " National Centre for Information Technology ( CNTI ) " supports this goal with the development of its own Venezuelan Debian-based Linux distribution Canaima GNU / Linux.

The installation - in Spanish - the download file is possible in boot mode. Add a Review installation and startup are described as slow. After installation, all open Office programs are installed, moreover, FreeMind, OpenProj and XChat. A Venezuelan - Spanish dictionary is included and integrated into the programs.

2008 Classmate PCs were ordered by the Portuguese JP Sá Couto hardware manufacturers that are shipped with this Linux. Today, these PCs are built as " Magellan " by Venezolana de Industrias Tecnológicas itself. Canaima is because of this limited target hardware on a monolithic kernel.
