Candida, Campania

Candida is a town with 1155 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Avellino in the Campania region. The community is economically dominated by agriculture.

Geography

The village lies on a hill about 580 meters above sea level. The distance to the south-west to the provincial capital Avellino is about ten kilometers and Naples is located approximately 70 km to the west.

The neighboring municipalities are Lapio, Manocalzati, Montefalcione, Parolise, Pratola Serra and San Potito Ultra.

History

Archaeological finds prove that already must have BC people lived in the 4th century on the territory of the municipality. The first written record dates back to 1045 when it came under the sovereignty of Avellino during the rule of the Lombards.
