Candy Lightner

Candy Lightner Lynne (* May 30, 1946 in California ) is the founder and was the first president of the U.S. organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving ( MADD ).

The MADD was founded by Lightner in 1980 under the name of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers ( " Mothers Against Drunk Drivers " ) after their 13 - year-old daughter Cari was killed in a caused by a drunken motorist traffic accident. At this time drunken driver at fault were sent to the United States usually not in closed prisons, but in the open prison. In this case, the driver was sent for two years in a so-called "half -way house". Although he had to stay there, but he was still able to drive every day to his old workplace. In response, Lightner founded the MADD.

Since then it has fallen out with the 1985 MADD, called the orientation of MADD to the total displacement of alcohol an error. She became one of the fiercest public critics of MADD. She stressed that she founded the organization to keep drinkers from the control, and not to carry a " campaign " against alcohol in general. Mid-90s, she worked even for the American Beverage Institute, a lobbying organization for the American brewing industry to prevent the lowering of the permissible blood alcohol limit in traffic.
