Canicross

Canicross is a cross-country running ( cross country ), in which the athlete is connected to a dog by a flexible cord. This flexibility is ensured by a shock absorber, which is attached either incorporated in the line or at the end between leash and running belt or Runner -Pants. This dog sport is popular and originated from the skijoring and the bikejoring with dogs in Europe, which may pull the athletes in these sports several dogs. The first world championship was conducted in Ravenna, Italy in 2002. In Germany there are both Canicross competitions and trail running as part of the tournament Dog Sports ( THS ). The set of rules ( see Related links ) is comparable and often the entry into the Canicross because there are a greater number of associations and competition deadlines at THS. At present, in Germany two teams registered, the Canicross, in particular the form run, have to content.

The equipment consists essentially of a waist belt and a flexi leash not exceeding two meters in length ( default tournament usually considered a benchmark of 1.90 meters). The dog gets a special dish that is comparable with sled dog harnesses. The pressure point is so made that the lungs of the dog will not be charged and the performance is only marginally reduced. To minimize the risk of injury, all approved straps have a panic hook, by means of which one can solve the connection between dog and runners. This also Panic snap said device is a prerequisite to participate in accredited race allowed. Since this sport is practiced preferably in heavily wooded areas, running shoes with correspondingly rough profile are mostly used.

Since dogs are very sensitive to high temperatures, runs from a temperature of about 18 degrees Celcius should no longer be performed. The maximum speed achieved in the run can be more than 30 km / h.
