Canigao Channel

Geographical location

The Canigao Channel is a strait in the Philippine Archipelago, connecting the Boholsee in the south with the Camotes Sea in the north.

To the west lies the island of Bohol, in the east of the southern part of Leyte with the port city of Maasin City.

The strait is named after Canigao, a small, uninhabited island with a lighthouse off the coast Leytes. On its western coast are numerous bays, these extend large mudflats and mangrove forests. These are partially protected, as in the Cogtong Bay. The narrowest point in the channel marked the island Lapinin before Bohol. It is only about 20 km from Maasin City.
