Cannon County, Tennessee

Cannon County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Woodbury, which was named after General Levi Woodbury, the Secretary of the Navy under President Andrew Jackson.

Geography

The County is located just east of the geographic center of Tennessee and has an area of 688 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the County DeKalb County, Warren County, Coffee County, Rutherford County and Wilson County.

History

Cannon County was formed on January 31, 1836 from parts of Coffe County, Rutherford County, Warren County and Wilson County. It was named after Newton Cannon, a governor of Tennessee.
