After the EOS 1 had established the new EF mount and autofocus among professional photographers, the EOS 1N enlarged Canons reputation in the professional sector.
The main changes were an improved autofocus, which is now offered 5 autofocus metering zones, as well as improved sealing of the camera from moisture and dust. The measuring range was extended, optimized the exposure and increases the frame rate to 6 frames / second.
Like the EOS 1 offered the EOS 1N a pentaprism viewfinder, which showed 100 % of the image field, shutter speeds from 1/8000 s and 30 seconds, a flash sync speed of 1/ 250 s and 14 custom functions.
- Power Drive Booster: For EOS 1N, there was the PB -E1, the frame rates up to 6 frames / second bot.
In addition to the standard rear wall there was the Canon Command Back E1, which enabled the imprinting the date, time, picture number and 4 other characters.
Standard: Laser - matte screen with focusing frame; optional 6 interchangeable accessory discs. The focusing screen can be changed through the lens bayonet.

Models / versions
- The EOS 1N was also sold in a set with the High Speed Booster PB- E1. In this configuration was the name of the camera " EOS 1N HS".
- Based on the EOS 1N several professional digital cameras were built. The first versions were virtually unaltered standard EOS 1N body with Kodak digital back walls ( Kodak DSC 1, 3 DCS, DCS 5), while later versions have a much higher integration of sensor and electronics offered (Kodak DCS 520, DCS 560).
