Canton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is located in Stark County, whose county seat is, and has 79 905 inhabitants ( as of 2004). The area of the urban area covers 53.3 km ².

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, it was opened in 1963.

The town is the seat of a bishopric of the Romanian Greek- Catholic Church.

Geography

Canton was founded in 1805 as a small village on the Nimishillen Creek and received 1854 status as a city (city ). The metropolitan area is located in a marshland which lies along and between the western and central source of the river Nimishillen Creek. The headwaters above flow together in the urban area to the actual flow. A short distance runs to the east, a third source drive of the said river.
