The Cão da Serra de Aires is one of the FCI (No. 93, Gr. 1 sec 1) recognized breed of dog from Portugal. He is led by the AKC in view of a possible recognition as a Portugese Sheepdog in the Foundation Stock Service since October 2012.

Origin and History

The origin is not clear. A trail leads to the Condes de Castro Guimaraes, the dogs of the breed Berger de Brie would have introduced and developed a different theory says that the Berger des Pyrénées is the origin and only Berger de Brie had been crossed.

Description

The dog is medium in size and 27 kg in weight up to 55 cm. He is ape- like appearance and " posturing " rumored why he is known in his native country monkey dog.
