Cao Shuang

Cao Shuang (Chinese曹爽, Pinyin Cao Shuǎng, W.-G. Ts'ao Shuang; Zì昭伯, Zhaobo, Zhao -po; † 249) was 239-249 Regent of the third Wei emperor Cao Fang. Born probably towards the end of the 2nd century AD, the son of Cao Zhen, he was appointed shortly before the death of the second Wei Emperor Cao Rui Sima Yi together with the regent and commander- in 239 and received the title of imperial Hofverwalters. After the death of Cao Rui's he seized with the help of Cao Fang the highest military force. But he gradually fell into the extravagance and immorality. In the year 244, he tried to conquer the kingdom of Shu, but was defeated by the regent Shu- Fei Yi.

In the year 249 he was captured during a visit of the tomb of Cao Rui initiated by a Sima Yi coup together with Cao Fang. After he had passed out on his power to Sima Yi, he was later accused and executed a conspiracy.
