capacitor bank

A capacitor battery is formed by connecting ( in series and / or parallel) of the plurality of capacitors, thereby a higher operating voltage, wherein in the sum total of smaller capacity, or in parallel connection of a higher capacity is obtained. There may also be a combination of series and parallel circuits.

Capacitor batteries from power capacitors for high voltage as shown in the adjacent figure, serving in AC systems for supplying electrical power to control the reactive power.

In applications with DC voltage, the stored energy in capacitor banks are discharged much faster than chemical batteries because a capacitor stores energy in the electric field and they do not have to win from chemical processes.
