Cape Prince of Wales

Geographical location

The Cape Prince of Wales on the Seward Peninsula in Alaska, with its geographic coordinates of the westernmost point of the American continent.

It is located opposite the Siberian Cape Deschnjow. Are the Diomede Islands and the uninhabited Fairway rock between two capes in the Bering Strait.

Its present name from the Cape on May 9, 1778 by James Cook. The natives knew it as " M (ys ) Nykhta " (Cape Nykhta ). Vitus Bering to have the Cape presumably named after Mikhail Gvozdyovs 1728, a Russian surveyor, " Mys Gwosdewa " (Cape Gvozdeva ).
