Cape St. Mary 's is a bird sanctuary ( Ecological Reserve, Bird Sanctuary ) on the Avalon Peninsula of the island of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Cape St. Mary's consists of a rocky coast on the southeast side of Newfoundland. Center of the breeding grounds is a 61 meter high rock which, although separated from the land, but only a few meters in a straight line is away from the coast. The reserve is the biggest bird sanctuary on the island.

Birds in the reserve

At Cape St. Mary's live about 24,000 gannets, guillemots 20,000, 2,000 thick-billed murres, kittiwakes and 20,000 300 razorbills (as of 2003).

Tourism

Cape St. Mary's is a place of interest for tourists. From the parking lot of the tourist information center can be reached within 15-30 minutes on a dirt trail along the cliffs to the actual bird observation point. Very often the area is to be found around the Cape in dense fog.
