Capena

Capena is a municipality in the province of Rome in the Italian region Lazio, 9945 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 39 km north of Rome.

Geography

Capena is above the valley of the Tiber. The old town rises on a hill overlooking the valley, while the modern districts in the plane extend to the motorway exit Roma Nord.

The nearby towns are Castelnuovo di Porto, Civitella San Paolo, Fiano Romano, Monte Libretti, Monterotondo, Morlupo and Rignano Flaminio.

Traffic

Capena located 8 km to Milan from the Roma Nord exit of the A1 motorway Autostrada del Sole of Rome.

The municipality is crossed by the light railway Florence-Rome, but here has no breakpoint. The nearest train station Fara in Sabina at the regional railway line FR1, from Rome Fiumicino Airport via Tiburtina Rome to Orte located, 12 km from the center.

Antonella Bernardoni ( civil list ) was selected in June 2009 for mayor. It replaced Riccardo Benigni, who did not run.

Attractions

The excavations of the ancient city of Lucus Feroniae lie in the valley of the Via Tiberina.
