The capitate bone (Latin capitate ) is the largest of the eight carpal bones and belongs to the distal (distal) series of these short bones.

Form ( proximal) it is a hinged connection with the navicular ( scaphoid ) and lunate ( lunate ) a sideways ( lateral) with the small trapezium ( trapezoid ), towards the middle (medial ) to the hamate ( hamate ) and distally ( distal) mainly with the third metacarpal, partly also with the second and fourth metacarpal bone (Os secundum, tertium and quartum ).
