Cappel is a district of Marburg in Hesse with about 7000 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Marburg -Cappel is located in the south of Marburg on the left side of the Lahn and at the foot of the mountain woman -west slope. In the north Cappel enters the district Richtsberg, east of the geographically located in Ebsdorfer reason Moischt villages are ( Marburg ) and Beltershausen woman mountain (municipality Ebsdorfergrund ). South of Cappel are the Marburg districts Ronhausen (behind the woman mountain) and Gisselberg (on the opposite side of the Lahn in the West).

As a residential area

Cappel is a suburb and now a district of Marburg since the early 1960's very popular. Of these, the various time typical new housing estates testify primarily with single-family buildings.

History

Cappel was in 1138 or 1139 for the first time in a document of Archbishop Arnold I of Cologne for the monastery of Siegburg mentioned ( " de Capela ' to the chapel ). In Salbuch ( Erbregister ) of the Office of Marburg from 1374 Cappel is mentioned alongside Ockershausen, Wehrda and Marbach as home village of the Landgrave of Hesse. This means that the residents of these four Marburg Castle closest villages were obliged the rulers to additional hand and clamping services.

The coat of arms forming stone mill can be traced back to the year 1299.

The late-Gothic parish church of St. Martin in the 14th century neo-Gothic style in 1900 was renewed and widened in the nave.

On 1 July 1974, the formerly independent village was incorporated along with Bauer Bach, Cyriax Weimar, Dilschhausen, Elnhausen, Ginseldorf, Gisselberg Haddamshausen, Hermershausen, Marbach, Schrock, Wehrda and Wehrshausen in the city of Marburg. The community Cappel had at this time including the eingemeindeten at 31 December 1971 places Bortshausen, Moischt and Ronhausen 6822 inhabitants.

Coat of arms

The Cappeler coat of arms shows a yellow water wheel on a blue ground and goes back to the stone mill on a tributary of the Lahn in the south Cappels.

Between 1879 and 1884 the painter Otto Piltz ( 1846-1910 ) has found many motifs in Cappel.
