Caprarola
Caprarola is a municipality with 5339 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Viterbo in the Italian region of Lazio.
Geography
Caprarola is located 57 km northwest of Rome and 21 km southeast of Viterbo. The town is located on the southeastern slope of the Monti Cimini east of Lake Vico, whose northern half belongs to the municipality. Also, most of the 1982 Riserva Naturale del furnished Lago di Vico belongs to the municipality. The Monti Cimini are some 4.5 million years ago volcanic arisen highlands. Lake of Vico is located in a dormant caldera. After the last eruption about 100,000 years ago, the crater gradually filled with both basic as well as rainwater. The Monti Cimini and thus Caprarola are among the areas with the most precipitation in the Lazio region (up to 850 mm per year ).
Caprarola is a member of the Comunità Montana dei Cimini. It carries the Orange Flag a seal of quality in the field of tourism and the environment of the TCI.
The neighboring municipalities are Canepina, Carbognano, Nepi, Ronciglione, Vallerano, Vetralla and Viterbo.
Traffic
Caprarola is served by the provincial road SP 1 Via Cimina, part of the Via Francigena from Viterbo to Monte Rosi ( Via Cassia ). It had a station on the railway line Civitavecchia -Orte that was shut down in 1994, but following a decision of the Lazio region to be restored on 6 February 2009.
History
Caprarola was first mentioned in the 10th century. In the Middle Ages it was disputed between the Counts and Di Vico d' Anguillara. With the establishment of the Duchy of Castro was started by the Farnese family with the mounting of the border town. Cardinal Alessandro Farnese built the Villa Farnese on the foundations of the fortress from 1559. This is also the place has been completely remodeled and axially aligned with the villa.
The name Caprarola derives from the Italian name for the goat shed.

- The former Carmelite church of Santa Teresa was built in 1619-23 on behalf of Cardinal Farnese ODOARDO by Girolamo Rainaldi.
Specialty
In Caprarola hazelnuts are Tonda Gentile Romana DOP of the variety. grown. In June 2008, the 7th International Congress hazelnut with participants from 25 countries took place in Caprarola.
