This production was the first film for MGM, which was shown on television ( 1955).

A surprised Spencer Tracy discovered that his Oscar inscription Dick Tracy had - the error of an engraver. Tracy later got a new statue with his name. Since this incident, only statues still be contracted without a name. The names are nachgraviert later.

Fleming and the writers changed the story crucial: here it was the fisherman Manuel and not the captain Disco Troop, the instrumental particular the education of boys. In addition, we had the figure of Manuel die differently than in the book, as he protected the boy. Thus, the film was precisely in those sentimental line, which tried to avoid Kipling.
