Capuchin Poor Clares

The Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration ', religious symbol OSCCap, are a Roman Catholic women religious and a branch of the Poor Clares, a branch of the Franciscan Order. You are now part II Order of the Franciscan family. The nuns live in strict enclosure, contemplative in complete silence and personal poverty.

History

There was already towards the end of the 13th century as part of a monastic foundation first wave Poor Clares in Mainz. The Reichklara monastery was closed in 1781/1782 repealed and are now the Natural History museum space. The active phase of the other Mainz Poor Clares Convent of the Poor Clares ( " Armklara ") in the Antoniterkapelle (Mainz) ended with the secularization in 1802.

In the 16th century Capuchin Order seceded from the Franciscans. During this time there were attempts at reform even at the Poor Clares. Maria Laurentia Longo founded 1535 reform monastery in Naples, which sought to ensure compliance with the original rule of St. Clare. This branch reform spread until the mid-18th century around the world.

The Order branch of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration was founded in 1860 by Capuchin Father Boniface Söngen. The nuns living under the Rule of St. Clare of Assisi. In German-speaking, there are four monasteries of this order.

The Mainz Adoration Monastery " Maria Hilf", was founded in the same year by the Bishop of Mainz, Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler.

The monastery in Mainz was hit hard during air raids in World War II in Mainz on 27 February 1945 and completely destroyed. 41 sisters who had fled to the basement, were buried and suffocated.

1952, the first service was held in the rebuilt monastery. 1996 was the inauguration of the new convent chapel " St. Klara ".

Even 1904 was using the Mainzer sisters in Koblenz- Pfaffendorf a new branch, the monastery of Bethlehem, was founded. From there was built a new worship monastery in Melville (South Africa) in 1930, which soon took up also indigenous sisters. Some of the Poor Clares from South Africa took over in 1986, the monastery of the Capuchins in Rosenheim.

The nuns maintain the daily Perpetual Adoration and see their main task in the deputy prayer and offer spiritual direction. You pray the Liturgy of the Hours and also invite believers. Your livelihood they deserve by Host baking. The monastery in Koblenz- Pfaff village currently consists of 12 sisters and three novices. Worldwide, there are 462 nuns.

Longtime Mainz superior and founder and superior of the monastery Koblenz daughter was the mother of Ignatia Hertling (1838-1909), the cousin of the German Chancellor and the Bavarian Minister- President Georg von Hertling.
