Car-Nation

The Car- Nation - often called Carnation (pun, dt: Clove ) - was an American automobile brand which from 1913 to 1914 in Detroit ( Michigan) was built by the American Voiturette Company.

The Car -Nation Roadster was a compact car with 500 kg empty weight, for U.S. $ 495 - was offered. He had a four-cylinder engine, type Herreshoff 25, and a three -speed transmission.

Car Nation also built a larger touring car model with four seats to the base price of U.S. $ 520, -. A tandem seater was advertised, but it is not clear whether more than a few prototypes of this vehicle emerged. Two roadsters and five touring cars survive today.

1912 moved the former manager of Pope- Toledo, Forest Keeton, Keeton his Towncar Works in a factory in Wynadotte (Michigan) to the shore of Lake Superior and renamed it to Keeton Motor Company. He began the construction of the first from France, influenced by the great Renault, air-cooled Keeton. This sold well enough to allow Keeton 1913 the construction of another, cheaper, European-influenced model under a new name: Car- nation. These activities were the oil magnate Charles Schaeffer is not hidden, and shortly after the introduction of the new car the short-lived car- nation Motorette Company and the previous Keeton Motor Company were united under his leadership to Voiturette American Company based in Detroit.

The hesitant market recording the unusual track of the Car- nation with 1219 mm and problems with the Herreshoff engines ensured that the company was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1914. At a public auction of the company 's assets in February 1915 Forest Keeton seems to have bought parts from the remains of the entire company, including 60 vehicles and 350 Keeton - Car- nation vehicles, and tools and thousands. However, he then moved on car repairs and never Restored an automobile.
