Scheid moth beetle ( Carabus scheidleri ) is a beetle of the genus Real beetle ( Carabus ).

Features

Scheid moth beetle reaches a body length of 25 to 35 millimeters and is one of the major species of beetle in Europe. Its body coloration is highly variable, with the elytra ( elytra ) and the pronotum can be bright blue to blue-black, copper-colored or brown. The elytra are ribbed uniform and have no chain lines. However, the strips may be divided into different lengths by Elytrenpunkte areas.

A similar type is the fine striped beetle ( Carabus monilis ), but having chain stripes and has a less constricted pronotum.

Dissemination

The beetle is spread over large areas of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe by Poland and the Czech Republic to the South-Eastern Europe to Germany in the eastern Bavaria.

Way of life

Scheid moth beetle lives mainly in forests, floodplains, fields with loamy soil and vineyards. He is active at night, and occasionally active during the day and hunts on the ground and in low vegetation.
