Carantec

Carantec ( Karanteg Breton ) is a commune with 3129 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region.

Geography

Carantec located on the northwestern end of the Baie de Morlaix, between the mouth of Penzé in the west and in the east of Morlaix, on a peninsula at the alternate steep rocky shores and sandy beaches. The place is over a hundred years a popular seaside resort and tourist destination mainly French tourists. Many residents in the greater Paris area own a small cottage here. There are several beaches, the island of Callot, which is accessible at low tide, and a waterfront promenade with many vantage points (eg, the " chaise du curé ").

Structures

  • The castle Taureau from the 16th century is built on a reef structure to protect the city of Morlaix against English attacks.
  • The neo-Gothic church from the 19th century, was built in 1867 to designs by François de Kergrist instead of a church from the 17th century.
  • Lighthouses " Phare de la land " and " Phare de l' Île Louët "

Islands

  • The Ile Louët is a picturesque island with a lighthouse was inaugurated in 1860 and a lighthouse keeper cottages.
  • The Ile Callot is a ship without only at low water on a flooded street otherwise achievable island.
  • In the bay there are several bird islands.
