Caravaggio, Lombardy
Caravaggio is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in Italy with 15,905 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012). It is located 24 km south of the provincial capital of Bergamo, 39 km east from Milan and 52 km to the west of Brescia.
Caravaggio has an area of 32 km ². The height is s.l.m. with 111 m specified.
History
The first mention of Caravaggio (as Caravagio ) originates from the 962 years in the 14th and 15th centuries the town was alternately occupied by the troops of the States Venice and Milan.
The community is known as the place of origin of the painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio family (* 1571).
