Carbamoyl phosphate

Template: Infobox chemical / molecular formula search available

Carbamoyl phosphate is the mixed anhydride of the phosphate ion and the carbamic acid and plays an important role in various metabolic processes. It is an intermediate in the breakdown of nitrogen compounds in the urea cycle, and is used as a starting material in the biosynthesis of pyrimidines.

In the urea cycle, it is shown in the mitochondria in a complex reaction from bicarbonates, ammonia and phosphates and ATP as an energy supplier. In the synthesis of the enzyme carbamoyl phosphate synthetase I is used as a biocatalyst.

In the synthesis of pyrimidines, the synthesis by means of the carbamoyl phosphate synthetase II, the cytosol, which plays a role as a glutamine precursor.
